Missions Conference 2016 Re-Cap
We had a wonderful missions conference 2016 with Dr. Lou Baldwin; the preaching was inspiring and convicting at the same time. As a local, New Testament church, we must believe that the church has a responsibility to reach the world for Christ – this is the vision God had for His people! God has equipped us with the proper tools and Dr. Baldwin challenged us to be a part of the Lighthouse mission team! He warned us about the problem of losing our vision and motivated us as he recounted the blessings of being a liberal giver. He was truly God’s man for the hour.
We enjoyed getting to know the missionary families who were with us – the Owens family to Argentina, the Sanabria family to Colombia, and the Morrissey family to Mindanao. Bro. Owens is returning to Argentina where he grew up, and has a great vision for reaching the folks there. His wife has spent most of her life in Mexico, so is fluent in Spanish.
Miguel and Mariangela Sanabria are going to Colombia; as a native Colombian, Miguel and his family immigrated to the US where Miguel was saved at the age of twelve. Our knowledge and interest in the land is usually limited to coffee and cartels; he will return to Colombia with a new life and the only truth that can make a difference in lives of those living in cities and towns in that country.
Bro. Mike Morrissey and his family will return to the Philippines, but will start a new work in the Island of Mindanao, which has a sizable Muslim population, as well as the traditional Communist insurgents. He plans to start a local, Bible-believing Baptist church there and reach those lost souls for Christ. Many of the Filipino people are receptive to the Gospel and truly sell out for Christ. We are excited to be able to partner with them to reach their fields for Christ. Not only did we add these families to our mission family, we are looking forward to taking on several more of the missionaries we have met over the past year. God surely worked in the hearts of our people!
This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. – Psalm 118:23.
I want to encourage you to not only give, but to pray for our missionaries. They face trials and temptations we cannot even comprehend. Ask the Lord to burden your heart for at least one of our missionaries and pray diligently for them. We will never know this side of eternity what those prayers allowed the Lord to do in the lives and ministries of our missionaries.
We want to offer a big ‘thank you’ to everyone that came and participated; if you haven’t yet taken the opportunity to fill out a connection card, you can do so at any time; just fill it out and drop it in the offering plate. It is humbling to realize that the Lord has chosen us, individual members of Lighthouse Baptist Church, to be able to give to spread His gospel to the world! Thank you for your part in fulfilling the Great Commission by your giving to missions. Together, we can truly make a difference!
